Grayscale Blend

A grayscale treatment can add subtle sophistication to a composition, especially juxtaposed with primary brand colors. A simple way to achieve this in InDesign is to place a white box over the photo using the transparency blend mode “Color.”

The duotone aesthetic can add a striking pop of color to a design. In InDesign, place a shape of the desired color over the photo using the transparency blend mode “Overlay.” This will add a wash of color to the image while keeping the tonal range intact.

For a more dramatic duotone effect in InDesign, place a shape of the desired color over the photo using the transparency blend mode “Multiply.” This will completely saturate, flooding all highlights and midtones.
